While the able bodied men were off to war older educators were hired as the need came after it. FDR and Truman knew that changinging to a peace time economy would be a slow process so the GI Bill was enacted. It provided benefits for education in either colleges or trades to take them away from the labor market for a while. The need for profs came partly from 4-Fs and leftists in many cases were ill qualified. It took years for them to gain tenure and revise history with textbooks of their perswaysion.I am an "old" new subscriber.
