Making America Great AgainReader comment on item: Arabs Disavow Hizbullah Submitted by Pro-Israeli Democrat (United States), Jul 31, 2006 at 21:21 ...And the same sentiments are being offered by politicians who clearly know in what direction they wish to take America, from liberal dems like Nancy Pelosi to Republican "mavericks" like Nebraska's Hagel, who has emerged as an unlikely critic of the Iraq War. They (and indeed we) have one common belief, America must become great again... as it was under FDR, Truman, and Reagan. Bush's America is starting to look like the America of Johnson when it comes to foreign policy and Nixon when it comes to domestic policy. This is not a good thing...Unfortunately, we are probably going to be in Iraq for a very long time. But seriously, what a wasted effort...did the likes of Richard Perle and Donald Rumsfeld SERIOUSLY think they could bring secular democracy to Iraq...I sure hope not. What is most embarassing of all (particularly for agnostics and atheists like myself) was Bush's claim that "God" had ordered him to strike at Saddam Hussein. It may partly explain why Iran and Syria are now laughing all the way to the bank. They don't take America seriously as they did 20 years ago, and (quite frankly), why would they? I want that to change. In terms of foreign policy, America must be reborn. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
