NO parallels in the Tanakh to match the debauchery and bloodlust fournd in the Koran

Reader comment on item: The Canadian Islamic Congress Discusses the Old Testament

First of all, I literally despise the use of the term, "Old Testament," and I implore you, Daniel, not to give it any credence. The use of the term, "Old Testament" as opposed to "New Testament" implies that the Jewish Bible is "Old news," and the Christian Bible is "New news" that supercedes the former. Of course, anyone who has honestly studied the Christian Bible would readily admit that Jesus, himself reaffirmed the validity and authority of the Torah for both Christians and Jews as long as the world as we know it continues to exist ("Not one jot or tittle diminish 'til the world disappear").

OK, now that is out of the way, I challenge anyone to find the same kind of mindless violence, torture, desire for martyrdom, subjugation of women, and an afterlife filled with virgin girls and boys ready to be raped that appears so often in the Koran anywhere in the Jewish Bible. The very worst thing that the God of the Jewish Bible has asked His people to do was to eradicate the evil that was the tribe of Amalek, including its men, women, children, animals, and everything touched by them. Note that this was the only time in the entire history of the Jewish people that their God has ever made a commandment like that -- and it was done for a very good reason.

If you want to know about te evil that is anti-Semitism and why so many in the world hate Jews, all you need to do is to read about Amalek and his descendants. In every generation for the past three thousand years, there have been men who have wished to exterminate all Jews, and it is no coincidence that these same men were also descencants of Amalek.

The present conflict in the Middle East between Arabs and Jews (or, more aptly, between Muslims and Jews) began longer ago than 60 years, for it had its roots in ancient, Biblical times. However, nowhere in the Jewish Bible will you find any encouragement by God to kill all non-Jews, no promise of pleasure and wealth for killing non-Jews, nor any exhortation to forcibly convert non-Jews to Judaism.

What you will find in the Jewish Bible are things like "LOVE THE STRANGER" and "TREAT THE STRANGER IN YOUR MIDST AS IF HE WAS PART OF YOUR FAMILY." You will find exhortations to "BE A LIGHT UNTO ALL NATIONS," and a "BEACON OF RIGHTEOUSNESS."

In short, none have gone so much out of their way to treat people of other faiths with as much respect, kindness, and love as do the Jews (and, by extension, the Christians as well). You will not find Jewish fundamentalists strapping bombs to their chests and blowing themselves up inside mosques simply because such actions are in no way supported, or even hinted at, by the Torah, and there are no possible interpretations to justify such horrific acts.
