Reading the Koran
Reader comment on item: The Canadian Islamic Congress Discusses the Old Testament
in response to reader comment: No, not the best idea

RWTW is not correct about the Koran. If he reads it, he will see that there are a number of verses which are explicit and clearly intelligible which call for making war on non-Moslems, which call for treating non-Moslems as the vilest of animals, which make it unlawful for a believer to kill another believer (but no protection for unbelievers, etc. If anyone would like a listing of those verses from the Koran, I would be happy to send them. Reach me at cgoldberg4@cox.net.

The fact that Qutb, Khomeini, bin Laden and all of their lesser followers support the terrorists' "interpretation" of the Koran is the best evidence that the Koran lends itself to such "interpretation". In fact, there are no significant, organized and recognized movements in Islam with other, peaceful "interpretations". There are only isolated individuals who prefer to overlook those passages in the Koran. And, don't forget about the Hadith -- the sayings by and about Mohammed -- which are considered to be on par with the Koran in their binding nature on believefrs.

If you want to understand why people behave the way they do, you have to know what is going on in their heads. If you want to understand what is in the heads of religious Moslems, you must read the Koran and the Hadith. The parts that concern us are, unfortunately, clear and comprehensible to anyone.
