Did Prophet Stop Violence or Promote it?

Reader comment on item: Debating PBS's "Muhammad" Documentary

Submitted by J. Khan (United States), Dec 20, 2002 at 12:47

The documentary not only did not show many historical facts very detrimental to Mohammed's image, some very false statements were also made. One of them was that Mohammed was successful in stopping violence in that society. Nothing could be farther from the truth. He himself was involved with 66 armed conflicts, all but one of them were offensive. After his death muslims fought with each other killing tens of thousands. Three of the four caliphs after him were murdered. His wife Ayesha fought a war with his son in law and cousin Ali; Maavia fought a prolonged war with Ali; Maavia's son Yazeed fought with Prohet's grandson Hussain; the list goes on. Also, following his teachings, muslims right after his death set out on unprovoked bloody wars aginst countries from France to India for spreading religion and to gain booty and women here and houris in the hereafter, killing & enslaving millions in the process.
