Reader comment on item: PBS, Recruiting for Islam

Submitted by salman waheeduddin (United States), Dec 20, 2002 at 09:20

Some issues to be noted

1. Historical accuracy of the life of Muhammad is debated among academic circles yet the vast majority consider that most aspects can be discerned regarding his biography. Please see Harold Motzki's writings in this regard.

2. No one in the muslim world has a negative opinion of Jesus or Moses and respect the theological understanding of Jews and Christians regarding these personalities. The difference of opinion is of a theological nature.

3. The interpretations of historical events is a subjective process. No doubt, some things are clearly wrong but a diligent effort must be made to rise above such subjectivities before a judgment is passed. Hearing both sides is a critical part of this process.

4. The American viewpoint is presented uncensored to the Muslim world through CNN and a host of other networks. But what effort is made in America to present the viewpoint of the muslim world. Muslims are human beings also and become better humans after following the example of Muhammad. This fact so prevalent but so unrecognized in the West. I think was the whole point of the documentry.
