Dr. Pipes,
In view of the expansion of the the war to Lebanon, are you still pessimistic that the Olmert governement won't back down? According to news reports, they have destroyed the airport and roads out of Lebanon, thus trapping the Iranians in. Arabs have been complaining that Israel's current actions are pre meditated. Could they be right? Could Israel be aiming at the destruction of Hamas and Hezbollah? Plus, one notes that the so-called world community has been notably silent about the situation, including the situation in Gaza.
Compare the reaction to Jenin three years ago, for example. Here, it's all too obvious that Israel was attacked, but that usually doesn't stop the so-called world community from condemning its actions.

I remain pessimistic about the Olmert government. Just days ago, Olmert reiterated his intent to pull out of the West Bank, suggesting he has not absorbed the lessons of the past two withdrawals, in Lebanon and Gaza.
