Western Ideology is Harmful in the Middle East
Reader comment on item: Hope for the Middle East

Western Ideology says if there is a situation we can fix it and usually quickly and live happily ever after. If there is a problem we HAVE TO SOLVE IT. If we can't, it reflects our impudence as an "Enlightened" or "Civil" Society...

Wars don't solve anything but provide for violence and death. Terrorism cannot be defeated thus talking with supposedly "aggrieved" parties is the best policy. (DEFEATISM)?

How quickly history repeats itself amid the arrogance and selective memory of educated and "enlightened" Western Modern Day Society. Hitler was a terrorist and a mafia thug. Arafat's mentor, Mufti Husseini, was a key Nazi supporter and co-conspirator particularly in exterminating the Jews. Hitler remarked about Ghandi, "Shoot him and shoot 20 of his main supporters and that will end that problem"

The more one knows about the history and politics in the Middle East and Israel the more one realizes that this problem cannot and WILL NOT be solved diplomatically.

When a diplomat or commentator who supports diplomacy and the eventual 2 states is asked what evidence they have that this is so... the usual response is it has to be better than the current situtaiton??? REALLY IS THIS SO???

If you analyzed the potential problems with this as well as perhaps the greater magnitude of them with a Palestinian state you could argue and much more effectively the EXACT OPPOSITE TO THIS WESTERN IDEOLOGICAL BASED IDEA.

Remember how cautious Mr. Rabin was going into Oslo from the beginning he understood this exact thing! Tragically this brave man was murdered and is not able to explain to all of what is left of the Oslophites that the process is a DIRE FAILURE....
One only has to listen to Fouad Ajami, who states that the conflict in Israel is the RESULT of the ever present and endemic problems in Middle Eastern society and its governments -- not the CAUSE by any means!! When you understand that, you understand perhaps that any ground Israel gives in the meantime is only a tragedy of succumbing to the Western Instinct to act deferentially and will not help ease the situation and will likely make it more dangerous and potentially Armagedonesque!!
