Question for you, Celina

Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men
in response to reader comment: Working out...

Hello, Celina. I read what you wrote about your relationship with your Morroccan husband, and it caught my attention. I have been married to a Tunisian man for about two years myself. I wanted to correspond with you in particular because what you said about the nature of your relationship really interested me, and I can relate to it in some important ways.

I have two important questions for you. First, do you have any children or are you planning on having children with your husband? Second, what are your plans and your husband's plans for their religious educations?

This has been the biggest concern for me in my relationship from the very beginning and continues to be something that my husband and I discuss regularly, and we seem to have come to an understanding that works for both of us. In my experience, it seems that everyone--family, friends, acquaintances from both sides of the relationship--always assume that the children will--of course!--be raised Muslim. I find that I cannot accept this idea for myself. To each his own, as the saying goes, but I do not fit in with that mindset. I am a teacher, also, and so children are essentially my life, and I have particular ideas about how I want to raise my own children, should I have them one day. Anyway, I just thought I would throw that question out there and see what you and/or anyone else thinks.
