The problem with our line of defense....

Reader comment on item: What Jewish Ties to Jerusalem?

Submitted by Arvind Madhavan (India), Jun 24, 2006 at 01:37

The chief problem with the Jewish defense against the Palestinian propaganda lies in the Jewish assumption of rationality to resolve the conflict since the Jewish defense is rationale and the Palestinian stand is irrational.

We assume that if we manage to present to the Palestinians the truth, they would accept it and forego their illegimate claims over the Holy city. The truth is that even if god himself manifested on this Earth and tried to convince the Arabs, they would still disbelieve him as it would not fit in their worldview. In their worldview, any non islamic conquered land has to be retained at all costs or be reconquered, more so if it belonged to any other religion.

We say that Islam is very inflexible, but the truth is that Islam becomes very flexible when it comes to Islamist purposes. Even if there is no direct mention of Jerusaleum in the Koran or even if it has been held in contempt by its islamic conquerers, they would invent lies to prove its historic significance to Islam.

The chief problem is our rationality, we can use any rationality we want, but its not going to convince them to discard their false beliefs.
