Casey should have and probably did knowReader comment on item: Casey, Santorum and Jerusalem Submitted by Stuart M Bliwas (United States), Jun 15, 2006 at 19:43 I disagree with Dr. Pipes as to his conclusion that Casey did not really understand the Arab Israeli conflict. Many of Caseys top aides are Jewish including his number one aide, Chief of Staff and strong right arm Dick Spiegelman. If Casey originally acted obtuse on the issue it's not because he didn't understand the issues as I'm sure he was throughly briefed, but because for his own reasons he chose to attempt to not commit himself at that time. When his deliberate obfuscations were noticed back home he realized he couldn't get away with it and proceedeed to backtrack. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
