The founder sets the future for the religion

Reader comment on item: PBS, Recruiting for Islam

Submitted by Sheerahkahn (United States), Dec 17, 2002 at 13:46

PBS has done us a disservice by not taking the opportunity to let the history of Islam speak for itself. Not a hit piece, nor a sweet, promotional piece, but a dispassionate examination of the facts. Islam cannot escape Muhammad anymore than Christianity can escape Jesus, no matter how much hand waving, shouting, cursing, or on air debate arises over the direction of the faith, the founder remains the same. PBS could've taken a historical approach in which the future of a specific religion can be seen by how the founder promoted his religion. That Muhammad promoted his religion by force, and in force that is how Islam has flourished would not be a hit piece but rather an objective historical review.
No religion, regardless of how piously attractive, how deeply moving, or how peaceful it's proponents proclaim it to be, can escape it's founder legacy. PBS would like us to think otherwise, and in this regard, they have failed miserably. In this, I would say that the proponents of Islam are afraid of the truth, and it is this fear of the truth which will prolong the needed reforms in Islams teachings that were handed down by a flawed man named Muhammad.
