This is what I found today (April 20) in the french newspaper 'Le Figaro' (rubrique 'opinions'): "...le Pape estimerait l'islam incapable de se réformer. Une bombe dans les mains des idéologues qui veulent convaincre du «choc des civilisations». D'ailleurs, à peine a-t-il eu terminé son interview sur l'un des talk-shows radiophoniques les plus écoutés des Etats-Unis que l'information figurait déjà sur les pages Internet du fameux chroniqueur ultraconservateur Daniel Pipes, qui s'est illustré dans la défense du Grand Israël."

In France, 'Le Figaro' is not an especially left-wing newspaper. But apparently even people who are not left-wing refuse to believe in a 'clash of civilizations'. Remarkable: Daniel Pipes is considered famous for being 'ultraconservative' and defending 'Great Israël'. The message is clearly: this is the kind of people who want to convince us of a clash of civilizations; don't trust them!
