"Why this undue solicitude for Saudi feelings? This hedging by the executive branch fits a pattern going back almost 60 years, to when President Franklin D. Roosevelt met the Saudi king in 1945. "
Mr. Pipes, I wonder whether you are familiar with John Loftus' book (co-authored by Mark Aarons of Australia) "The Secret War Against the Jews"? If you are, you will know that detailed there is the active involvement in the 30s and beyond of Allen Dulles in conspiracy with St. John (Jack) Philby - the notorious Kim's father - of the UK (who helped Ibn Saud "invent" Saudi Arabia) to subvert the Middle East policy of the first of many US administrations to follow, and to permit oil and money to trump human rights and human life. That said, there is no doubt that the administration of President Bush, Jr., is the friendliest of all to Israel and the Jews, but oil and money still exert their considerable power. In my humble opinion, only the hoped-for rise of "Islamic Protestantism" coupled with a decline of dependence on fossil fuels has any chance of initiating the sea change required to "save the world" .... Keep up your incisive and insightful writing: it is much looked forward to by this correspondent.
