Guilty of believing their own rhetoricReader comment on item: Hope for the Middle East Submitted by Mark Feldstein (United States), May 21, 2002 at 17:25 Factor 1, (existence), is not going to change and is fueled worldwide. Israel can live peacefully without being universally loved.Factor 2, (fear), would implode if the present leadership were jailed or killed. Probably will be done by somebody. Factor 3, (on a roll), is how Jordan lost the West Bank in the first place. They should have stayed out of the war but believed wild Egyptian claims of victory. Reports of Israel's death were greatly exaggerated. People who do not learn from their errors keep on repeating them, so I am not hopeful. As horrible as it may sound, what do you think about getting through to them the way we finally had to convince the Japanese, twice, to their own benefit. Judging from polls I'd say Gaza City and Tulkarm could be carpet bombed without losing too many "friendlies".
