The above blog made me stop at the beginning paragraph due to these points:

1) The Shari'ah is NOT unanimous nor "perfectly clear" on the need to kill apostates. Muhammad himself did not do this in every instance of apostasy, nor is every opinion of every jurist over 14 centuries the same on this subject...

2) To the contrary, the Rushdie affair proves that lack of unanimity (as well as exposes an issue of futility), especially being the fatwa against his life having been issued 17 years ago, by the head of a minority sect, to which there's been no real exodus of "orthodox" Muslims to oblige...

3) Uh, aren't there Westerners that are Muslim?
