While I agree, I disagreeReader comment on item: [The Need to Name and] Know Thy Terrorists Submitted by John Wilkinson (United States), Nov 19, 2002 at 10:32 We must see what is happening to Militant Islam in Iran to see why our government is confused. If the clerics in Iran can be overthrown, our government believes the Saudis, etc. will stand up to militant Islam and follow suit. Yes, this is a gamble, but to be misunderstood, the way the USA is regularly, tends to make you gun shy. The tough talk and easy victories by the Bush administration make us look strong and gives people from the Middle East the understanding that we are powerful. If we spread ourselves too thin and get hurt, like in Somalia, we appear weak. They understand strength and that is what is working in Iran. The youth want to go back to what their parents had. If they can do it, the whole Middle East will change overnight.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
