DisagreeReader comment on item: Civil War in Iraq? Submitted by Jonathan Goodman (United States), Mar 10, 2006 at 11:59 ...Bush tried to justify invading Iraq on the grounds that Iraq was dangerous -- developing or having WMDs, supporting AQ. When those "turned out" to be lies (as Krugman says this morning, they were obvious lies at the time), the justification shifted to helping Iraqis ("..torture chambers and rape rooms.."). When that "help" leads to an easily predicted ethnic bloodbath, the ...neocons are ready to walk away and say "Mission Accomplished".Liberals of the bleeding heart kind may be wrong. Maybe welfare doesn't help poor people. Maybe high taxes hurt the economy. But with ethics like this on the other side, what choice do we have?
