status of women in islam

Reader comment on item: What's True Islam? Not for U.S. [Government] to Say
in response to reader comment: Cruelty to women?

Submitted by donvan (United States), Feb 24, 2006 at 13:45

Sana, while you are correct that we in the US have men (and women)who abuse each other, nowhere in our culture or society is that behavior acceptable. As you know, but obviously need reminding, islam advocates diminished status for women. Thus, any society which organizes around the Mohammedian ideology will act accordingly. We have no place for "Islamic" ideology in the US. The belief system is antithetical to our way of life with individual, womens, rights protected by civil law which shiria would change if given a chance.

Nor does the government hide the fact that there is violence in our society, and at no time or place has the government encouraged violence. In your need to justify a brutal and repressive belief system (Islamism) you are reaching to imply that.. "All do it". Leave Islam and seek happiness.
