Morocco's got bad press for its cooperation with Spain
Reader comment on item: Immigration's Grisly Edge in Ceuta and Melilla

Submitted by Farid (Germany), Feb 16, 2006 at 10:49

As a Moroccan citizen living in Germany, I've been rather troubled by the negative press that my country's got here in Europe for arresting sub-saharians who tried to cross the border to Melilla and (allegedly?) deporting them to the moroccan-algerian border where they came from. Fortunately, the press campaigns eventually died down, but there's still a feeling of disappointment in Morocco that we're actually helping to secure the EU's external borders against a huge wave of poverty-induced immigration, and yet being at the same time heavily critisized for doing just that what the Europeans have been asking us to do.
