Hamas History and Liberal Excuses
Reader comment on item: Thoughts on Hamas' Ascendance

Submitted by Dalia Lauer (Israel), Jan 27, 2006 at 03:33

Americans for Peace Now have already e-mailed their response to the Hamas victory. There are two responses - more detailed than those on their web site. ...

Although no one anticipted this huge victory, they NOW know what caused it. Ironic.

Several years ago, I found the Norwegian report of the Oslo process. The link still exists.

Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"Norwegians? Who needs Norwegians?"
http://www.mfa.no/ud/engelsk/publ/rapporter/032041-220003/index-dok000-b-f-a.html

It points to the Rabin government's fear/distress about rising Hamas popularity after the Intifada and the resulting decision to bring in Arafat and company.

In short, Hamas has always been popular and the disengagement pushed them over the top.

You can write all this much better than I.

Regards,
Dalia Lauer
