Problem has a budget dimensionReader comment on item: [Hedayet and] Border Agencies in Denial Submitted by David Patterson (Colombia), Oct 18, 2002 at 00:51 I understand your concern and outrage in this article, but I think you know that the problem has a significant resources dimension: INS budget and staff are not even close in size and strength to the size of their job. While they should admit their errors, the fact is that when INS people often have seconds to make determinations that should take minutes or hours and in some cases require at least a bit of research, they will inevitably make many errors. Hopefully, budget resources under the new Homeland Security Department may be increased enough to ease this problem. (No, I do not work for INS and never have.) It's important that people and organizations like you lobby for INS to have sufficient resources to avoid such errors.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
