On the contrary, my Dear watson, nothing has changed. The Eastern Mediterranean has not budged an inch. The Arabs are the same Arabs. The Jews are the same Jews. the aspiration of the Arabs and Jews are incompatible as are the aspirations of Ussama Bin-Laden and Dick Cheney.
Every Jewish national leader who rises to power in tiny Israel finds him/her self burning in the crucible of the enormous pressure exerted by the administration of the USA to do everything possible to assuage the oil-barons, placate the Jihadist demons, pacify the jittery energy markets, all at the expense of the safety of Israel's Jewish population. In the end, they all capitulate, and Jews die, by the thousands.
Examples? PM Ben Guryon withdrawing from large tracts on the Sinai in 1949. all of Sinai 1957, thereby setting up the scene for the next war. PM Meir not preempting the Yom Kippur war, to the tune of 3.5k dead Israelis. Begin ceding the Sinai, again. Rabin setting up the Death and Murder Authority, giving up tracts of mainland Israel to the terrorist organizations. (1500 dead so far). Barack, how low can you go. Netanyahu reaffirming the legitimacy of the DM Authority, and now Ariel Sharon destroying en mass jewish habitats, to the ear-deafening clapping of the white-house and State department.
The only way a Jewish leader can win Administration favour and approval is by decimating Israel by just one more slice, two is better, and setting the stage for the next round of blood-shed.
Are we going to see an end to this trend of baptism by fire of every jewish leader, the payment in jewish blood for access to the favour of the Oil-barrons? Unlikely. Not until Bill Gates and Arnorld Schwartznegger or some Neo-Cons team up to make Oil an unwanted commodity. Until those happy times we shall grit our teeth against the next wet noodle of a Jewish leader who will transfer the force of the American thirst for oil onto the bowed backs of the resillient Jewish residents of Zion.
Sharon the man should hopefully live, regain his cognitive abilities and write his post-factum observations. Long live the King.
