Sharon says whatever needs to be said to get votes, but does the right thing anyway

Well, all he said was he was resolved to "try" to resolve it, not actually resolve it. Sharon knows that saying this is politically popular, but everyone knows all he means by it is that he's going to fence Gaza and the West Bank to unilaterally determine Israel's borders. He has no intention of sitting across the table from anyone and actually negotiating.
