Reader comment on item: The Gods and the Arab-Israeli Conflict

Submitted by Alex Ragen (Israel), Dec 16, 2005 at 07:13

Note the difference in phrasing. Bush fils et père want to end the conflict. Sharon wants merely to make an effort to bring about peace and security. Peace and security are possible for Israel even if the conflict continues, as it surely will until the Islamists establish their precious caliphate.

Sharon is a realist and chooses his words carefully. He means what he says, but no more and no less. Recall that in his election campaign he said he was aware that painful concessions had to be made. Those who thought he wasn't going to make them were surprised by the disengagement plan.

The lesson is, pay attention to what Sharon says and especially to what he doesn't say.
Pay attention to George W's words. He's learning (from Sharon?) to be careful with his words.
