The problem is the problem itself. The religious zealots on both sides make the the situation unresolvable. It is almost depressing. No amount of negotiating with hard line radical Islamist who number in the millions will change their beliefs, hearts, and minds. All one has to do is listen to what as been coming out of Iran for the last few weeks.

Lastly, how can one negotiate with a people whose religious doctrine actually teaches them that are allowed to lie during negotiations with unbelievers if it furthers the cause of Islam or gives the believer an advantage over the unbeliever. That kind of ethic or better yet, "lack thereof" kills a peace process that is dependent on openess, understanding, and truthfulness.
