I am reading quite a lot of the history of the 7th and 8th Century. But, now I realize that probably much that I have read has been twisted and reshaped by the arabic "translators".

I prefer the straight talking Mongols. When one of the decendants of Ghengis Khan approached Bagdad he had an idea to bypass this great center. He met with the Khalfa of Bagdad and told him he needed only x number of horses and x number of wagons of grain and they would go on their way in peace.

The Khalifa astoundingly refused this offer and the mighty Khan said to him "well then, we will enter your city and I will toss you up into the air as does the mighty lion". He did what he said he would do and the rest is history.
