Don't forget denial. If you deny the lessons of the past because they make you feel uncomfortable, it's easier to deny the reality of the present.

Thank you for manning the lines on the propaganda front. The propagandists recognize and seek to exploit this weakness of democracies by appealing to the universal hope of a better world. A world like Oz.
