Reader comment on item: More Converts to Terrorism

Submitted by Amitabh tripathi (India), Dec 10, 2005 at 10:57

The list of people who converted in Islam and later indulged in terrorist activity is a big contribution from Dr Daniel Pipes in fight against terrorism. This list vindicates lot of people who are of the view that terrorism is not a law & order problem alone. It has some ideological and theological base also.

Reading couple of articles of Dr Daniel Pipes on this issue I personally can not refrain myself from showering word of praise for Dr Pipes. His long association with subject of Islam and terrorism has served lot to this whole humanity. Couple of articles again shows his honest intention to fight against this evil.

As for as content is concerned it is nothing new but what is unique in this the data which give ammunition to those who want to expose islamist apologists theory of jihad that Islam has nothing to do with terrorism. It is really surprising to note that only change of faith can bring so much change in a people who do not even hesitate in blowing himself for the cause of his new adopted faith.
It is right time for the Europe and America to wake up towards some of realities .One of them is growing influence of Islam in political and social life of Europe and Islam. The one reason to which I personally think is so much inclination towards appeasement and liberal policies of these countries.

After the French revolution when new western world order took place and politics and religion was separated in new secular system these countries based themselves totally on constitutional setup rather than keeping in touch with their historical root and culture also .It created some sort of cultural vacuum for the new generation and they felt more excitement in radical ideology rather than secularism which prohibits religion strictly in public life.

In one of his previous articles titled 'will secularism survive', Dr Pipes has raised some genuine questions and has hoped that because of secularism there will be no repetition of crusade which world witnessed in first millennium .But western world also think seriously about the fact how much secularism is hollow that whenever America or any other European country confronted the challenge of Jihadi terrorism their public opinion severely polarized on the base of religion. Even America has witnessed so much plarisation that evangelical forces got a big say in American system after 9\11.

Every countries political system can survive on constitutional systems but ultimately society go in search of its historical and religious consciousness as time goes on.

I think the one big question which these couple of articles has put before us is why Christians are converting themselves into Islam . It definitely something has to do with so called secularism. It will be horrible even to think what world would be without secularism, but secularism and liberalism has not been applied in its true form, it has become tool to appease Muslims .

All the prominent democracies do silly things in the name of secularism and liberalism as Bush presented award to Muhammed Ali because he want to prove himself more secular and liberal, which is possible only by doing some blunders in favour of Muslims.

Same has happened with Israel Ariel Sharon not only sealed fate of Israel by withdrawing from Gaza but also launched new party to change the agenda of Israel polity. All political parties in Israel will follow the policy of concession for Muslims to get international certificate of secular and liberal.

The time has to think seriously about this point also. Eiether secularism should be applied in neutral way or it be given serious thought.
