Dr Pipes,
Recently I contacted Pastor Daniel Nalliah directly - the speech in question he gave concerned Dhimmification and the pitiable state of non-muslim minorities in Islamic countries. Though being largely factually true his speech was held to villify Islam - the fairness of such villification is as far as I can tell not the central concern of legal inquiry. The ruling is a pitiable act of apologism from the Premier of Victoria Steve Bracks - he has made trips to the Middle East to promote his states interests there - one might see this as a further move strategically down this path. Islamic apostacy laws being enforced by proxy through the state government.

To Joe I would point out the following facts that I pointed out to Pastor Daniel Nalliah - though being the claimants in the case the Muslim Council of Victoria did not sit on the ruling body - nor does it appear to have even been their idea to attend Nalliah's lecture or even bring the claim before the body. The entire exercise has been orchestrated and carried out by a set of left wing ideologues - a product of the rotten factional system that seems to underlie the substratum of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) in Australia. Like so many Tribunal systems there is an undercurrent of lust for administrative and judicial power in those who are utterly ill equipped (often underqualified) to wield it - abuses of such power are the natural result. In my home state of Queensland we have similar problems with family law tribunals whose manipulation of privacy provisions has enabled them to evade any degree of transperancy that might bring an end to their tenure. These tribunals again are the product of a Labor Government - providing ready employment to its cronies. It's Horowitz's "Unholy Alliance" of the left wing and Islamism at work. Expect alot more more if the Coalition fails to chase these very same ideologues out of the education system and the judiciary where they propagate and perpetuate their anti western/American ideas.
