Reader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men
in response to reader comment: Non muslim man --- muslim woman

Brian, have you discussed this issue with the woman in question? It doesn't sound like either one of you would ask the other to convert, so is it possible to find common ground? There are not as many differences between Islam and Christianity as you have probably been led to believe.

I am reading a book entitled, "Why Do They Hate Us?" by Steve Slocum. The vast majority of Muslims are peace loving. This particular board is geared more towards Western women being targeted by Muslim men desperate to leave their country for a better one. This woman by no means seems to have ulterior motives. Why would she?

I have posted a lot on this board about my situation, but it is very different from yours. If you two genuinely love each other, perhaps compromises could be made. I used to work for a Jewish woman who was married to a Christian man. They had two children together, and they made it work. They celebrated both Christian and Jewish holidays, and the children were allowed to choose their own beliefs. Since you don't have children, and hers are grown, this wouldn't even be an issue. I am Christian, and had no problem with my husband being Muslim. It was how he treated me, using his religion as justification (I'm guessing) that was the problem. I would suggest having a heart to heart conversation with this woman. I know you wouldn't ask her to convert, nor she you, but there are things you both could share. I don't think the situation is impossible if you are both willing to respect each other's beliefs.
