I would agree with Dr. Pipes' assessment that treason is a defunct concept in the West. Canada's Prime Minister, Paul Martin, recently appointed as Governor-General (or Queen's Representative) an individual with dual citizenship. She has both Canadian and French citizenship. By and large, I don't think most Canadians are terribly upset -- it's "so what?" or "who cares?" I suspect that twenty years ago, it would have mattered -- today, it does not. Attitudes have profoundly changed.
