Pat and Jane, among others, have correctly alluded to this collective new-age delusion of a utopian World Without Borders inhabited by World Citizens (whose anthem could be One World One Love, Let's All Become Equal To Third Worlders And We'll Be Alright etc ) ... as being naturally aligned with treason.
I think they are quite correct in this view. Loyalty to the greater good requires committed courage and thoughtful sacrifice. It requires an adherence to eternal values that arise from Judeo-Christian religious beliefs and that extend beyond one's immediate interests.
I hope, Dr. Pipes, that you do not succumb to cynicism. Where loyalty is alive and well, there too can treason rear its ugly head and be vanquished for doing so. While I agree that loyalty to country has suffered a beating in our times, I am not for one moment going to let that diminish the worth of my own loyalty. I hope you don't either. Heaven knows that not only does the USA not need any more defeatism ... but the underclasses of the world do not deserve it either. Loyalty to this country is still the best antidote to oppression everywhere.
