Reader comment on item: Symposium: The Showdown [with Iran]

Submitted by Monty (United Kingdom), Jul 31, 2005 at 11:39

I would have liked to see some analysis regarding the composition of the regular armed forces of Iran. Is there any possibility than the younger, middle ranking officer corps could or would sustain a coup? Do they have professional armed forces, or conscription?

Another tack, though not the most reputable approach, would be to engineer Iran into a war of attrition with a neighbour state. The Iranian public would not tolerate the slow steady torment of heavy losses for long.
