Sam Harris liberalism is needed

Reader comment on item: Accepting Europe's Anti-Immigration Parties

Submitted by Anon (United States), Dec 3, 2017 at 05:53

Most of the far right groups in Europe seem to be hostile to anything non Western and this is not healthy in the long run. What is needed are liberal thinking seculars similar to Sam Harris who defend the good ideas in Western civilization while criticizing the bad while also being open to immigration from cultures that are not at odds with the good aspects of Western civilization. However people who bring hostile cultures and practices that are at odds with modern Western civilization should not be welcome in Europe.
Lastly the greatness of modern Western civilization lies in its secular aspects - the science, the free thinking, the arts, the openness and willingness to absorb the best of other cultures etc and not in its archaic religions.
