Mystery #3: Gulen - SOLVED - False Flag coup d'etat operation used to eliminate the opposition within Turkey

Reader comment on item: The Erdoğan Enigma

Submitted by Eric Berman (United States), Apr 21, 2017 at 12:41

There was no real attempt at a coup d'etat, in July, 2016. What occurred was clearly a False Flag operation carried out by Erdogan's forces, that immediately accomplished several objectives:

  1. Gulen was officially made an off-shore boogey man, in so far as the Erdogan-faithful citizens of Turkey are concerned. Thereafter it will always be easy to blame Turkey's problems on "meddling" by Gulen;
  2. The near instantaneous and "convenient" removal via "47,000 arrests, 113,000 detainments, 135,000 firings or suspensions from jobs, and many, many more entering the shadows of "social death.", of those individuals whom Erdogan's secret police had long suspected of anti-Erdogan policies and/or actions. Not only were those individuals "removed", but everyone else was placed on notice that they will suffer the same fate should they oppose Erdogan's future actions.
  3. Intimidation of the US - through demanding that the US extradite Gulen back to Turkey combined with the direct harassment of the US Military at Incirlik Air Base. The US needs access to/through Incirlik for its operations throughout the Mideast - Erdogan will be able to further blackmail the US into more concessions for ever more limited restricted use of Incirlik.

Erdogan is a very shrewd, calculating Muslim politician who sees himself as the rightful Caliph of the next Islamic Caliphate. He is no Ataturk and certainly is no friend of the United States.

Accepting all your points still does not clear up the mystery why he is paying such a high price to pursue Gülen and his supporters.
