That is a distinct possibility. It's clear he's fallen into the same trap that all despots do - doing everything he can anything to accumulate and maintain power.

Erdogan is a megalomaniac and has no idea how transparent his methods and motives are to all but the most blind leftist or died in the wool islamist.

His sense of entitlement and gall are breathtaking. The only good thing about him is that he provides comic relief when he's on the news speaking in Turkish - it makes him sound like he's brain damaged.
