Who are Islamists?

Reader comment on item: Smoking Out Islamists via Extreme Vetting

Submitted by Andrew Anderson (United Kingdom), Feb 2, 2017 at 11:39

1. Are you arguing that all Muslims who support shari'a are Islamists? Or are you saying that it's necessary to be a shari'a supporter but not essential (to be an Islamist)? Can we be sure that the shari'a question is black and white: either you support it in full or you don't? Aren't there nuances?
2. I'm not clear how you think the information gathered should be used. For example, if someone answers "yes" to question 60 and "no" to 75 should they be excluded?
3. The temporary ban affects citizens of seven countries whatever their religion. You presumably believe that an Iraqi Christian (I know there aren't many of them left) should have no more difficulty in getting a visa to the USA than an Italian Christian. That of course leaves you discriminating against people because of their religion (see below).
4. As I understand it, you'd want your (or similar) questions to be posed to anyone who is (or is believed to be) a Muslim, since I take it that you wouldn't want to rely on answers to a simple question about whether someone was a shari'a supporter. Have I understood you correctly?
