Regarding the terrible plan to have them take over Greek islands

Reader comment on item: Further on Syrian Refugees: Fleeing to the West or to Saudi?

Instead of having the EU feel it's caught between a rock and a hard place, why does Europe not immediately announce that it doesn't recognize Syrians (and others) coming from a safe country (like Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey) to require asylum.

Even without this step, merely announcing that anyone coming this way will not receive even one euro from Germany (or any EU country) would do a great deal to reduce Turkey's leverage. They can advertise it just as Australia did a few years ago, promising no even one will stay in Australia. They can set up refugee centers, which give no money, in the middle of nowhere for whomever comes anyway.

The billions of euros they spend on wefare for these asylum seekers incentivises the process.

Dr. Pipes, can't you suggest this to anyone, alongside making a deal with Egypt to take in those who do get through to Europe? I remember I suggested Egypt over Turkey and you found that an attractive prospect.

Without cutting off the financial incentive, they'll continue wanting to come.

Imagine if it were Turkey promising any Iraqi, Syrian, Afghan a handsome payment every month for crossing to Europe + finding them an apartment, spending tens of billions for this purpose. Well, it's the EU doing it.

Daniel Pipes replies:

In effect, this is what the Europeans are coming around to this suggestion by placing ads in Middle Eastern newspapers telling how lousy it will be in Denmark, waring them about sexual practices in the Netherlands, threatening to take jewelry from migrants, and even this plan to hole the migrants in Greek islands.
