Opinion from a Moroccan girl in LondonReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Aisha (United Kingdom), Aug 1, 2016 at 11:48 Stumbled across this page - very interesting reading so here's my 2 santims if it helps I work off a general rule of thumb: If a man can't get a girl as attractive at home as he can from a poorer country then there's probably a reason for that. (interchange that as you will - you get my point) Getting exploited for a visa/money is the same thing regardless of the religion/culture of the person - it happens everyday in any poor country, when people are desperate to escape financial and political uncertainty. However respect for ones self is the 1 thing you should be able to count on, if a western woman puts up with abuse from a Muslim man then they'd probably put up with abuse from Any man. I could date/marry a man from my background who will either treat me as I want to be treated or treat me badly, the same way that could happen to me with a man from any other race. Sure after a shot gun wedding things can fall apart. Cultural expectations of male/female roles are more defined and maybe not what you are led to believe in the beginning of a relationship while both male and female are trying to be ultra considerate of each other. It's like any relationship and relationships are hard work, once you're committed, even if you're with a guy from your own culture, once it develops you will probably be expected to not go out with friends as much as you did, not come home so late, maybe not wear your skirts as short and probably cook more and I'm sure you probably do most of the housework. The boundaries change, it all comes down to expectation but the boundaries still change and what man is the same attentive do anything you ask without complaining type as when you were first dating. Even me living in the UK, prior to marriage I would usually date guys from my background but who had a common ground and also have an appreciation for the freedom of the west because that is what I'm used to. So I'd take my time to date them, then have a relationship, introduce them to my family, and really know them and their families fully, so I'm as sure as I can be that he meets my expectations and I meet his, otherwise its all a waste of time when it all goes wrong if I'm expected to cover and not work further down the line etc. I'm all up for love but I am not trying to pay out money to bring a man into my life from some far away country that I met online or on holiday, who's culture/language I don't fully understand that is going to be reliant on me financially - NO Way - Wake up ladies you are getting PLAYED and if you were attracted to Caribbean men it would be them or Latin men it would be them, it just so happens you attracted to Arabic or North African men who happen to be Muslim. So in answer to your question in my opinion: No they don't treat us the same way, as we and our families would question a man's motivation in a such a situation and only once they have proven themselves of sound character to us and our families would something as serious as a marriage even be considered. Especially in such a drastic scenario of moving to another country to get married (being that divorce in a genuine marriage is not really an option). But like in any culture if 1 party is considerably poorer than the other then it's likely the more wealthy family would question the motivation of the less fortunate party and the less fortunate family would likely encourage the marriage for hope of a better life for them. However yes some marriages are unhappy and expectations are not met, the same way that is visible in western countries, which is why we have divorce for when it just doesn't work out.
