Reader comment on item: Does Israel Need U.S. Jewish Support?

Submitted by Anon (United States), Apr 19, 2016 at 23:18

Dr Pipes,

I would argue that American Jewish opposition to Israel is healthy for Israel in the long run as it will be akin to a good source of self critique for Israel. Christians who support Israel because they want to slaughter Jews on some biblically prophesized day in the future are not a healthy fanbase to have in the long run.

All that said, Israel is a strong and industrious nation and will not only thrive but also forge powerful alliances with Asian countries like China, India and so on where the hunger is for more collaboration with technologically sophisticated countries like Israel who can help with many pressing issues like water conservation etc. Plus China is not a country to be messed with and its ties to Israel will be of great benefit to Israel's security.

Daniel Pipes replies:

  1. As though Israel does not have enough self-criticism from within.
  2. Your characterization of Christian support for Israel is inaccurate to the point of inanity.
