land swap to settle Israel/Palestine conflict

Reader comment on item: Surveying the Middle East & Islamism

Submitted by Susan Freiman (Israel), Apr 1, 2016 at 11:47

Prof. Pipes' comments on settling the Israel/Palestine conflict by a two-state solution through exchanging territory, such as Maale Adumim (now part of the West Bank) for Umm el Fahm (within the Green Line) illustrates the difficulty with this kind of solution. I do not think the residents of Umm el Fahm would want to lose their Israeli citizenship, which comes with numerous social and economic and political benefits.

Daniel Pipes replies:

You are right that Israeli Arabs don't want to lose their citizenship in the Jewish state. But the also don't want to abandon their houses and towns.
