To: dating a Moroccan man 12-16 postReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Jordana Ghannam (United States), Dec 17, 2015 at 18:10 Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but your Moroccan love doesn't seem to be on the up and up. Trust me, I am a Syrian/Palestinian-American and I am married to an Egyptian man so I am well aware of the cultural norms and I've experienced a normal naturally occurring relationship/marriage to a Muslim/North African man and I know what to expect/accept and what not to. The fact that this girl is in the picture is very strange to me, and if it had happened to me I would've dropped my husband like a hot potato. Since "dating" in the western sense is not largely accepted in Islamic culture, the fact that this female is being so possessive and forward would be a red flag to me. It would be a red flag in a western relationship undoubtedly but I think because he's Moroccan it is even more of an odd scenario. Also, this is probably the biggest one here: in middle eastern culture (regardless of relgoon) family is very important and family approval of relationships and "doing things the right way" are par for the course-and so, any guy that is serious about his intentions with you will make a concerted effort to get to know ur family (specifically your parents and probably more specifically your dad) and will make sure they approve of him and that he's earned their respect and doesn't overstep his bounds or hurt u in any way. Also he will bring you around his family relatively early on and express his intentions to them in your presence. And u can just sense when something isn't right in that scenario or when it's legit-you just can. My husband was a Virgin when we met, (I was not but I was previously married since I was 18 to a very abusive man and was granted a divorce with my fathers wishes) and I was the first female he had ever introduced to his parents and even his brothers and close friends and he was 28 so that says something right there. Also my parents were very overprotective and involved with the relationship right from jump and I assume that was of some incentive to him; that I was from a good family with similar values, and he went to my mom without my even knowing and told her his intentions with me and that she needn't worry about me when I was with him etc. so there ARE good ones out there but I doubt u have found one, also they know they cannot easily scam women who have close knit, old fashioned families they are very close to (that's too many involved ppl to disapprove or express concerns and such) and scammers are not going to stick around to be interrogated by ur dad and follow the rules ur parents set in place (but a good guy would) so try not to ever express information early on if u are estranged from ur immediate family, are from a dysfunctional family, or even an overly liberal westernized family, don't tell them about previous failed relationships or marriages or other hardships that may make u appear to be an easy target or vulnerable, or make them assume you have more relaxed morals and that they could potentially get you to sleep with them/send risqué photos etc. just be very careful but my gut says if u have to ask for advice of strangers on an online forum, it's probly not legit Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
