Jihad Through History

Reader comment on item: Jihad through History

I have been studying the Bible for many years. And I am a fundamental Christian, that is, one who believes that the Bible is the word of God and that one should live one's life according to the instructions contained therein. I am not alone in this as there are many Christians, who have similiar beliefs and conduct their lives accordingly. The Jewish people have their Talmud, and the fundamental believers conduct their lives according to the instructions contained therein. Fundamental believers, that is Christians and Jews were willing to give their lives and many have, in order that they might obey the scriptures. But for some unknown reason, when it comes to Muslims,we expect them to deviate from their holy books, the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Why should we not expect Muslims to live and conduct their lives according to their holy books? Having studied the Qur'an (3 different translations) and the Sunnah, I am not at all surprised with the conduct of Muslims. After all they are only following the dictates of their holy suras and hadiths. To think that the present violence perpetrated by Muslims is temporary and their ideology is subject to change is just ridiculous. The 3 hadiths below should give you some insight into their thinking.

Volume 1, Book 10, Number 505:
Narrated 'Abdullah: I asked the Prophet "Which deed is the dearest to Allah?" He replied, "To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times." I asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?" He replied, "To be good and dutiful to your parents" I again asked, "What is the next (in goodness)?" He replied, 'To participate in Jihad (religious fighting) in Allah's cause." 'Abdullah added, "I asked only that much and if I had asked more, the Prophet would have told me more."

Volume 4, Book 52, Number 50:
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
The Prophet said, "A single endeavor (of fighting) in Allah's Cause in the forenoon or in the afternoon is better than the world and whatever is in it."

Volume 4, Book 53, Number 392:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
While we were in the Mosque, the Prophet came out and said, "Let us go to the Jews" We went out till we reached Bait-ul-Midras. He said to them, "If you embrace Islam, you will be safe. You should know that the earth belongs to
Allah and His Apostle, and I want to expel you from this land. So, if anyone amongst you owns some property, he is permitted to sell it, otherwise you should know that the Earth belongs to Allah and His Apostle."
