You are NOT wrongReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Nicole (United States), Jul 8, 2015 at 15:29 In Islam there is a concept called Maharram. Wali/Guardian. Your daughter's guardian I assume is her father and you. He is required to get the permission of the guardians to marry her. Otherwise, according to sharia law the marriage is invalid. Please refer to fatwas from islamweb.net for further Islamic explaination. Whether the woman is Muslim, Christian or Jewish she is entitled to a dowry, Nikkah (marriage contract) and the protections provided to her by her wali who holds her best interest at heart. Understand, in some Muslim countries, marriage in a Western court house does NOT count as a recognized marriage. Her Nikkah should be drawn up at a MASJID. You and your husband should be specific to mention that he is NOT permitted to take another wife for the entire duration of the marriage. This is a contingency even Saudi Arabians (very strict Wahabbi) Muslims acknowledge. So at least on this point, this should relieve your fear of her falling victim to plural marriage. Of course, like marriage to an American this will not safe guard her against him having extra marital affairs as you're well aware. As far as compensation, believe it or not, a female has a right to demand anything in her Nikkah, It's up to the man to agree or not. I cannot stress enough that this marriage contract should be fullfilled at a masjid recognized, stamped and sealed preferably by ICNA. This way it will be INTERNATIONALLY recognized. On a postiive note, he wanted her to meet his mother in a masjid. I will tell you that the ones with bad intentions usually stash the bride away and keep her secret since they do not intend on staying with the woman once their economically secure in the West. This is NOT to say that the mother is opposed to her son latching onto an American for papers to set them all up financially but never the less if you bother to read forums or get to know victims who've been duped into believing the marriage to be real are basically like a dark secret. The fact he wanted to bring her to the masjid is a good sign. My advice to you, if your daughter is lonely and desperate and you feel you cannot talk her out of it, chances are you won't be able to. However, you can at least implement the best possible outcome for your daughter by learning what her rights are, what your rights as her parents are, going to the masjid YOURSELVES (YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND ALONE WITH YOUR DAUGHTER) present the evidence to the IMAM in front of the fiance/husband and write up the marriage contract. Demand what ever financial compensation must be met if there is a divorce in the future. Basically, demand any sort of rights you want protected that he must sign if he truly loves her. If he refuses than you have your answer as per his intentions. Best of luck search islamweb.net click 'english' type in 'rights of wife' 'conditions of valid marriage' you will find the answers there.
