Amy thin thoroughlyReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by coconut (Philippines), Apr 5, 2015 at 11:56 you have not really lived for a long time in Egypt to experience the intervention the mothers are doing to the lives of their married sons, i am not against having an extended family or very close family ties, i am living in a country where even the 3rd degree cousins are considered as family, and when you have something even you are already married and have your own you should help them, i think this is the meaning of the family, but for a mother to intervene for the sake of power tripping is not good, and i also grew up in the culture where daughter in laws take care of their parents in law, we dont have nursing homes here because we believe we must take care of the older people, i am ready to wash the ass of my future mother in law if i have too when she is already old, because i have seen this in my culture, but to have your wife take care of your mother just to show your family and your mother that you are above your wife is wrong, very wrong, i said that they accepted your situation as a Western woman who already have children and divorcee because financially speaking they dont have to worry, youre a Western after all, independent and no need to be taken care of, in Egyptian culture, Egyptian men should have a lot of money to marry an Egyptian Muslim girl, because of the dowry, engagement and wedding party, you will be really surprised how they spent on these occasions, and did i tell you about the flat? and Egyptian man need a furnished flat to offer to his bride, usually the family if the man will bear all the sky rocket expenses, for a Western divorcee woman like you they dont need to spend a lot, they have no problem, because they will not spend money on a non virgin woman who already have children, if you are an average Egyptian Muslim woman with children nobody will marry you, because in their culture they take care of their women, and most men dont want to take care of women who already have an excess baggage, in your case, financially you are not a burden, and yes you are right about stigma about Western women, i heard the friends of my ex egyptian man talking about Western women, they said you dont know your real fathers because your mothers are sleeping around while your fathers are working outside of your homes, they look down on western women when it comes to morals, they value women by the standard of their morals, if you saw someone in egypt looking at you especially on conservative areas even you are a convert they think you are a whore, i dont want to be mean and to hurt your feelings, but i have seen and heard it all, i realized i cant live on that culture, image is always important all the time, they care about what people will think and say, when i talked about Egyptian men who left their foreign spouses wihout a trace and i think its a bad thing, i was referring to their intention from the very start, these men have no intention to stay forever with their foreign wives, they can be really patient, when they can already pay the dowry this is the time they will leave their clueless foreign spouse and marry a young muslim bride, for them it is their right, to marry a virgin wife, it boosts their ego, thats why they can divorce their wives from the moment they find out she is not a virgin, this is a law in their country, im not talking about divorced couple in other parts of the world who have reasons of they grew apart or they fell out of love, im talking about men who have intention of leaving you after they already raised the right amount of money for dowry, engagement and wedding, it doesnt matter even they are 40 or 50 years old and they marry 18 or 20 because its acceptable, the man just need to go to the father to pay the dowry, you can ask him about this, ask your man about all these things, if you met him online for sure you are looking for someone to be with you, it is not true that you cant live without a man in your life, im sorry for my words but if i have to say these things to at least make you think thoroughly for a while i will do, you sound like a teenager whose very much inlove with all the words on your past posts, but like what one of the women here said, its either you learn from the experience of the women here or you learn on your own, good luck and may God/Allah Bless you Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
