The single most important step that the Bush administration can take to combat Arab irredentism is to move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. Until that happens, America is sending a message to Arab countries that it believes that Palestinians have a legitimate claim to Jerusalem. Once the embassy is moved to Jerusalem, Arabs will have to face the reality that their maximalist demands will not be met.
Would this be a slap in the face to Arabs? Yes. Is a slap in the face (or more than one) needed to bring Arab governments back to the real world? Yes.
