Good question re: North African Male ViolenceReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Isabel (United States), Nov 30, 2014 at 00:06 I wonder the same thing. I'm an American woman and come from a very progressive background. I'm politically correct to a fault. So, when I was living in Spain and a man from Morocco began pursuing me, it never occurred to me to be dubious about his intentions. (I later found out that, through a mutual acquaintance we shared, he had gathered a lot of information about me so that when he was courting me, he could tell me everything I wanted to hear.) He came on very strong, we began dating, and for the first month he treated me like a princess-- then all hell broke loose. He became increasingly violent and manipulative. I caught him in lies many times. His behavior was erratic-- one moment he would be verbally abusive and threatening, and then the next moment he'd behave like a little lost boy in need of my reassurance. He began isolating me from the few other people I knew, telling me (what I later found out were lies) about them. Once when he was angry with me he punched his fist into a wall and broke several fingers. Another time, while he was driving me to a doctor's appointment, he got mad when I didn't do a good job telling him the directions, and he began pounding on the dashboard and then swerving the car back and forth on the highway, as if to crash us. You may wonder why the heck I stayed with him after everything I've written-- I was quite sick when he met me and I was alone in a foreign country. He promised to help me, to take me to doc's appts, etc. I became dependent upon him during the first month, when he was nice to me. Then his behavior became controlling and violent. When doctors told me I'd need surgery, he started telling me he wanted to marry me-- after just two months of dating. I realize now it was probably for a visa. (I'm a dual American/Irish citizen.) The last straw was when he physically assaulted me in my apartment one night, after an evening out with a few friends. Everything was lovely while we were out on the town, but as we approached my apartment, he accused me of flirting with the other man (who was gay) and not talking enough to him. He broke up with me on the street and then barged into my apartment and assaulted me and broke my things. I left Spain a week later. If you go to Mallorca, avoid Jounaid. He's dangerous.
