Reader comment on item: There's No Difference between ISIS and ISIL

Dr. Pipes

This terrorist entity is called داعش or DA3SH or الدولة الاسلامية في العراق والشام or al-Dawla ai-Islamiyya fi al-Iraq wa al-Sham or The Islamic State in (the) Iraq and (the) Sham or ISIS and the Arabs would have no clue about what the word Levant really means so for Western readers both ISIS and ISIL are correct but for the Arabs it is DA3SH

And as would be expected the name has changed and now they seem to be calling this terrorist entity الدولة الاسلامية or the Islamic State or IS and if you check their web sites many are calling it دولة الخلافة الراشدة or Dawlat al-Khilafa al-Rashida or The State of the Guided Caliphate and here is a link from a Salafi web site

So stay tuned for more names

Daniel Pipes replies:

Levant = Mashriq, which is a common term for the Middle East east of Egypt. But it's not the term that Da'sh uses.
