Change of heart?

Reader comment on item: Hamas and ISIS on the Rampage

Submitted by Harry Palmer (United Kingdom), Aug 24, 2014 at 18:08

Daniel - that's a great interview with the usually high quality insights, so thanks for those. However, I'm curious about the apparent change of heart demonstrated by your final comments.

You've previously commented that the West should - albeit while holding its nose - side with Assad against AQ/IS Islamist groups, while you end this interview by arguing that we should support the weakest in order to perpetuate the conflict 'until death'.

While I agree with the 'until death' sentiment for the perpetrators, I fear for the tens of thousands of ordinary people who must suffer and perhaps die while this bar brawl continues. Nevertheless, the change of tactical advice is intriguing.
